Illinois 18th District Congressman –Democratic Primary – March 2018

Three candidates are seeking the Democratic Party nomination in the 18th Congressional District: Brian Deters, Junius Rodriguez, and Darrel Miller. 

Two candidates are running in the Republican Party primary.

The sprawling district includes all or parts of 19 counties in central and western Illinois: Adams, Brown, Cass, Hancock, Logan, Marshall, Mason, McDonough, McLean, Menard, Morgan, Peoria, Pike, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Stark, Tazewell, and Woodford.

Early voting for the March 20 primary is already underway.

Brian Deters grew up in Quincy.  He taught social studies at Morton High School before his wife was transferred to Switzerland for her job with Caterpillar.  He said the family has lived in Switzerland for the past five years but is in the process of moving back to Illinois.

Junius Rodriguez is a historian and professor at Eureka College.  He was the Democratic nominee for the 18th Congressional District in 2016.  He lost in the general election to Republican Darin LaHood.

Darrel Miller describes himself as a lifelong farmer from western McLean County. He said he can draw from a lifetime of business experience to address issues.  Miller was the Democratic nominee for the 18th Congressional District in 2014.  He lost in the general election to Republican Aaron Schock.
