West Prairie Gets Ready for New Technology

The West Prairie School District will begin incorporating wireless devices into classes at the high school next year.

Superintendent Jonathan Heerboth said the district is studying the best way approach the change.

He said one class at the high school has been testing the “one-on-one” technology. The students preferred devices that use a regular keyboard over tablet devices that use a keyboard on a touchscreen He said the students found they do so much typing the regular keyboards were much easier to use.

School Districts Prepare for Possibility of More Cuts

Illinois public school districts are preparing next year's budgets. It's a difficult undertaking with state aid still up in the air.

The legislative session will begin several weeks later than usual. It's not known when the governor and the lawmakers might agree on education funding.

General State Aid to school districts was cut 5% for the current fiscal year.

West Prairie Superintendent Jonathan Heerboth said the cuts for next year could be worse.

West Prairie Will Implement New Technology

The West Prairie School District will use “one-on-one”technology starting next year.

The district has been preparing for the next advance in classroom technology by building a high-capacity wireless network.

Superintendent Jonathan Heerboth said new technology will take advantage of the wireless network by connecting students to resources through tablet devices.
