Back to Work for Illinois Legislature

Illinois lawmakers began November with an election that solidified Democratic majorities and they will finish the month by returning to the Capitol. 

Their annual fall meetings are called veto sessions because lawmakers are supposed to consider legislation the governor rejected or changed.  Those could include statewide regulation of plastic bags and a plan to let cancer treatment centers reject job applicants who smoke.

Study May Lead to New Treatment for Brain Disorder

A University of Iowa study could help scientists better understand a serious brain condition.  Between one and three of every thousand children born in the U-S are affected by the condition hydrocephalus, in which fluid collects around the brain.

Courtroom Returned to Historic Look

McDonough County courtroom now looks a lot more like it might have when the courthouse was completed in 1872.

Courtroom 203 has a refinished oak floor, a new bench, and a new table top. All were custom made and handcrafted.

In addition, the paneling was removed from the walls and replaced with drywall and wainscoting.

“We were fortunate to have Mike Lester, who’s originally from Good Hope, who took on the job of basically crafting from hand all aspects of the wood that is in the courtroom and it’s phenomenal,” said Associate Judge Patricia Walton.
