Broken Christmas Lights to be recycled at Tri-County Regional Collection Facility in Macomb.

After the holiday season people might have broken Christmas lights and used batteries from their new electronic devices. Those should not be thrown in the trash. Also landfills in Illinois do not take electronic waste, but the Tri-County Regional Collection Facility in Macomb recycles it for free.

Illinois House Adjourns Without Vote on Pension Plan

Over the protests of state employee unions, an Illinois House committee gave bipartisan support to a plan intended to repair Illinois' underfunded pensions.  But the full House adjourned Monday without taking a vote.

The legislation would leave workers paying more for a smaller retirement benefit.  House Republican leader Tom Cross said the change is necessary given the condition of Illinois' pension systems.

Same Sex Marriage Bill Falls Short in Illinois

A last-minute push to legalize same sex marriage fell apart in the Illinois Capitol. Supporters in the  Senate said they're a few votes shy of getting it through, even though supporters rallied in the Statehouse.

"All this movement forward right now, it really confirms to me that marriage equality is the defining civil rights movement of our time, and now Illinois has the chance to be on the right side of history today," said actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson from the TV comedy Modern Family.
