Matching Challenge for Macomb Library

The Macomb Public Library has raised half of the money it needs to qualify for a state grant, and is now being challenged by an anonymous donor to maintain the momentum.

Capital Campaign Co-Chair Judy Kerr said the donor will provide $25,000 if the library can raise the same amount between now and February 1.

“This two week period is a very short time to attempt this but I feel certain that we will reach that goal,” Kerr said.

Forums Set for Macomb Superintendent Finalists

The three remaining candidates for Macomb School District 185 superintendent will return to town before the end of the month for second round interviews.

Each will also participate in a public forum. Each of those forums will begin at 5:30 pm at the Spoon River College Community Outreach Center, 2500 East Jackson St in Macomb.

The schedule is:

Thursday, January 24 – Dr Chet Lien

Monday, January 28 – Dr Patrick Twomey

Wednesday, January 30 – Dr Chad Allaman

Each forum is scheduled to conclude at 6:45 pm.

King, Sr Talks About His Son

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Tri States Public Radio takes you back to a speech given by the father of the slain civil rights leader.

In 1975, Martin Luther King, Sr. visited the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to talk about the role of religion in the civil rights movement, and his son’s tireless work.

King said he bears no ill will for his son's killer.

“I am determined that I’m not going to let nothing get me down. I’m determined that I’m not going to let hate take me over and destroy me,” King said.
