Republicans in Illinois' Congressional delegation are on board with Governor Bruce Rauner's move to temporarily close the state's borders to Syrian refugees in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris. 

The state's eight Republican House members are also condemning President Obama's plan to let in 10,000 refugees from that country this year.

Illinois is one of 24 states closing its borders to Syrian refugees in wake of the terrorist attacks in France last Friday. It's unclear whether this move is legal under federal law.

In a statement, Gov. Bruce Rauner announced the state will "temporarily suspend" accepting Syrian refugees, citing safety and security concerns after the Islamic State group killed and injured hundreds of people in the Paris attacks.

The photo got me.  Red shirt, blue shorts, and little shoes.  It's been a long time since I have helped my children put their shoes on, but in an instant I was sitting on the floor lacing up Willow and Maren's tiny floral trainers before taking them to pre-school.   Three year old Aylan Kurdi's parents had lovingly dressed him for a very difficult journey that morning.  Hoping for a better life, his parents placed their faith and their family in a rubber dingy, trusting that the journey would end in a better life.

Most journalists occasionally are confronted by angry newsmakers (usually powerful ones). Some journalists get threatening calls or emails, rude posted comments or letters to the editor, and that’s about it. But this week, as the seventh annual Sunshine Week is underway, it’s appropriate to also note that some journalists are killed for being part of the handful of human beings whose job – whose calling – is to run toward danger.
