The two highest-ranking members of the Lee County Attorney's office officially traded jobs this week, making Clinton Boddicker the county's third lead prosecutor in 2017.

Early voting is underway in Lee County ahead of the May 2 special election. The ballot includes a contested race for county attorney between current prosecutor Ross Braden of West Point and assistant county attorney Clinton Boddicker of Keokuk.

Opponents of the Dakota Access crude oil pipeline have maintained an around-the-clock encampment for several weeks in a ditch near one of the construction sites in Lee County. That could be coming to an end following the issuance of an eviction notice.

The city of Keokuk filed three lawsuits during its lengthy dispute over LeeComm, Lee County’s consolidated emergency dispatch center. With the dispute seemingly resolved, Keokuk has dropped all three lawsuits.

It appears a deal has been reached that will ensure 911 calls from Keokuk continue to be answered by Lee County's centralized emergency dispatch center (LeeComm). The proof comes in the fact that the city asked for and received permission to cancel an upcoming court hearing on the matter.

Midwest Academy Documents Made Public

A district court judge in southeast Iowa has ordered the release of documents related to the investigation into claims of sexual abuse at Midwest Academy near Keokuk. The documents show the investigation targets Ben Trane, who owns the boarding school for troubled teens.

A judge has dropped one of the two felony charges filed against the head of the Green Bay Levee and Drainage District in southeast Iowa. District Court Judge Cynthia Danielson said this month that the statute of limitations had expired on the charge of Theft in the First Degree against Mike Pieper.
