The McDonough County sales tax referendum received overwhelming support, as did Schuyler County's request to extend a road tax.  The Warsaw and Hamilton School Districts were also successful, but referenda were rejected in the West Burlington School District, Clark County, and the city of Alexandria.

Illinois law requires a special election to fill the seat being vacated by outgoing Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) within 120 days of him leaving office.
