Money in Place for Macomb Water Project

It took a while but Macomb will finally receive money for a much-needed project on the city's northeast side.

Mayor Mike Inman said the city applied about a year ago for a Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP) grant to finish a water main project along East Carroll Street. He said the state has notified the city that the more than $300,000 grant has been awarded.

Inman said people generally don't give much thought to water main projects until there is an issue with their service.

Macomb's Health Care Costs to Rise

The City of Macomb and its workers are preparing to pay more for a key employee benefit.

The plan calls for the city and workers to each contribute an added 6.5% to the Health Insurance Trust Fund beginning February 1.

City Administrator Dean Torreson said the increase is necessary to prevent the fund from being vulnerable in the event costly claims need to be paid out.

“Our goal here is to keep a good cash balance in our Trust Fund,” Torreson said.
