LEE COUNTY

An engineering study for a proposed sewer system in rural Lee County could be completed before the end of the year.

The study will provide construction options and potential costs for people living in and around Mooar/Powdertown.

The results of the study will determine whether the sewer project moves forward.

The Lee County Board of Supervisors plans to review it before meeting with residents.

Possible Attempt to Abduct KHS Student

More details have been released about the possible attempt to abduct a Keokuk High School student this afternoon.

The Keokuk Police Department says at approximately 1:00 P.M., a female student was approached by an elderly man as she was walking home.

Authorities say the man allegedly asked her if she needed a ride home as well as other questions that made her feel uncomfortable.

She refused his request and continued to walk home, prompting the man to drive off.

Keokuk Administrators Observe Classes

Keokuk School Board

Administrators within the Keokuk School District spent more time in the classrooms, last year, as part of a program aimed at observing teacher and student performance.

The 2011/2012 school year marked the second year for the eWalks program.

Business Manager Greg Reynolds says the program requires administrators to conduct brief, unannounced visits into classrooms throughout the district.

Keokuk Superintendent Search Continues

The Keokuk School Board could soon see a list of potential superintendent candidates.

Business Manager Greg Reynolds says applications will be accepted through July 9.  He says Ray & Associates (Cedar Rapids, IA) will review the applicants in the hopes of presenting a final list to the board by July 23rd.

“They are then going to interview (candidates) the following week,” says Reynolds.  “I believe the 30th and 31st (of July) is the plan.”

Keokuk hopes to have a new superintendent in place before the start of the school year.
