Glenwood Pool in Macomb dates back to the 1940s and Park Board John Hemingway said the pool is showing its age. The pool was open for just a few weeks this summer because of various problems, and he questions whether it's worth putting more money into repairs to keep Glenwood going.

Veterans, past and current park board members, and others took part in the Veteran's Park dedication ceremony in Macomb.

“When you look at the young kids playing out here on any afternoon, that's what people served for. To provide that opportunity,” said Park Board President John Hemingway, who is a veteran.

During the ceremony, McDonough County American Legion Post 6 and Macomb VFW Post 1921 presented an American flag to Park District Executive Director Ray Peterson, who oversaw acquisition and development of the 80-acre site.

Macomb Park Board Vacancy Will Remain Open

May 28, 2012

The vacancy on the Macomb Park Board might remain unfilled until after the election in April of 2013.

The seat has been vacant since the death of former board president Lois Nickson in August of last year.

Board members have discussed filling the seat. But board president John Hemmingway told fellow commissioners this month that it is time to end the search.

He said, “The president asks for consent that, failing anybody stepping forward to volunteer, that we proceed without actively soliciting a fifth member for the remainder of that term.”
