SCC Faculty Seeking Raises

The faculty at Southeastern Community College is seeking a pay increase and several language changes in its next contract.

The initial offer from the SCC Higher Education Association for the 2013/2014 school year calls for a 6.85% increase in salaries and benefits.

The increase would be calculated after state money set aside for improving teacher salaries is added to current salaries and benefits.

The HEA also wants education levels to be considered during lay-off recalls and the option to carry over unused leave time or be reimbursed for it.

SCC Faculty Seek Presidential Evaluation

The organization representing Southeastern Community College’s faculty says it is worried that President Beverly Simone is jeopardizing the college’s accreditation.

The SCC Higher Education Association has sent a letter to the college’s Board of Trustees outlining its latest concerns and some possible solutions.

The SCC HEA expressed no confidence in Dr. Simone last year.

The college’s Board of Trustees said, after several months, that it remains confident in her and her commitment to the college.
