Schools across the U.S. served more than 5 billion meals in the national school lunch program to millions of students last year. Each one of the meals has to meet federal rules for nutrition. Now, those rules are up for debate and Congress could impose changes on the cafeteria.

Moffitt Backs Healthier Options for Travelers

The Illinois House recently approved a resolution that would require rest area vending machines to provide at least three healthy food options for every ten offered. It defined healthy option as snacks that are 220 calories or less.

The resolution also calls for two of the healthy options to come from Illinois.

Western IL Food Bank to Offer More Fresh Produce

In Western Illinois those who need assistance from food banks, will soon be able to get more fresh fruits and vegetables.

The Central Illinois Food bank, based in Springfield, distributes food to pantries across central and western Illinois including in Adams and Schuyler counties.
