Fort Madison Names New School Superintendent

The Fort Madison School District's search for a new superintendent came to an end when the school board selected Erin Slater to lead the district, starting July 1. Slater is the assistant superintendent for curriculum and education in District 45 in Villa Park, Ill.

The field has been trimmed to two in the search for Fort Madison's new school superintendent, and the board could make its choice before the end of the week. The finalists are Chad Garber and Erin Slater.

July 30 was the final day candidates could file their nominating petitions for the Sept. 8 school board election in Iowa.  The two largest schools in the county (Fort Madison & Keokuk) have extremely crowded fields with twice as many candidates as open seats.

Ken Marang is quick to point out how much he has enjoyed his time with the Fort Madison School District, in particular the students, the teachers, the school board, and the community.  But he said it's time to look to the future, which is why he will retire as superintendent on June 30, 2016.
