Macomb Police Seeking Peer Approval

Rich Egger's guest is Macomb Police Lieutenant Jeff Hamer. They talk about the on-site assessment that will take place at the police department August 13 - 15.

Two trained assessors from the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association will examine the department to determine whether it should be accredited through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). The department will be graded on 71 professional standards.

New Community Development Director for Carthage

Jim Lenz's  guest is Amy Graham,  Carthage's new community development director. They talk about her  30 years experience as an educator and prinipal and how she can draw upon it in her new position.

Graham caller herself a "people person."  She says those skills learned in dealing with students and parents will serve her well in her new position.  She says her role is as a facilitator to bring people together and to help them make connections whether to expand a business or for community betterment.

Financial Challenges for Earp Birthplace

Room where Wyatt Earp was born

Wyatt Earp was born in Monmouth on March 19, 1848. The birthplace of the famous lawman has been maintained to the present day.

Earp is best remembered for the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The board of the Wyatt Earp Birthplace faces a very different kind of fight.

Audie Durand is the volunteer curator for the site. Each year it hosts a re-enactment of the famous gunfight. This year the board wasn't sure it could afford it.

She says, “Even as late at June 1st we were having to decide whether or not to have the shoot-out on August 4th.”

The Central Illinois Foodbank

Rich Egger's guest is Kaleigh Friend, Public Relations Manager for the Central Illinois Foodbank. The organization services 21 counties, including Schuyler, Cass, Morgan, Brown, Adams, and Pike.

Friend said the foodbank provides 8.5 million lbs of food to communities per year. Some of that is delivered through mobile foodbanks.

She said the Central Illinois Foodbank is seeing a new demographic of people requiring assistance.

Mike Norris is Executive Director of the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission.

Jason Parrott's guest is Mike Norris, who is the Executive Director for the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission.  They talk about the work of the commission and several ongoing projects.

The SEIRPC serves governmental bodies in Lee, Des Moines, Henry and Louisa Counties.  The voluntary membership organization does contract work, performs property management and oversees state and federal funding for cities, counties and school districts.
