Three Western Illinois University professors have been selected to teach abroad as Fulbright lecturers.

This week’s guest on Emphasis is Jonathan Ahl, General Manager of Tri States Public Radio. He talks about programming changes that will begin July 1.

“We spent a lot of time listening to a lot of shows,” said Ahl, adding there are two reasons for the changes: NPR’s decision to end Talk of the Nation (it airs for the final time on June 28), and listener feedback.

For this week’s Emphasis, we present the documentary Remembering the Governor of Forgottonia.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the tongue-in-cheek political campaign that helped put western Illinois on the map – sort of.  Neal Gamm, a bushy-haired, energetic, theater student at Western Illinois University, declared 16 counties should secede from the US and found the Republic of Forgottonia.

An upcoming show at Western Illinois University’s Art Gallery and the Figge Art Museum in Davenport features art created for W-I-U as part of the WPA and the Federal Art Project in the 30’s and 40’s.

This week on emphasis Western Illinois University professors Joel Gruver and Bart Gill discuss how agriculture as a whole has done in reaching out to the public. 

Doctor Gruver specializes in sustainable agriculture while Doctor Gill expertise lies more in conventional ag practices.

Rich Egger’s guests on Emphasis are Jean Harman, Food Security Team Leader for the Peace Corps, and Timothy Collins, Assistant Director, Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University.

Harman will be the keynote speaker for the 10th Annual Environmental Summit at WIU, which will take place Wednesday, April 3 on the Macomb campus.
