Work Continues on Peoria to Macomb Study

Macomb, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation has narrowed the number of alignments being studied for Route 336 between Peoria and Macomb. The information was unveiled at public meetings this week, including one in Macomb. IDOT's Eric Therkildsen says the agency will review the comments collected and continue studying the corridors. He says most of the comments IDOT has received thus far support construction of the road, but adds there are some opponents. For example, the group "Citizens Against 336" thinks the state would be wasting money if it built the road. The group's Ken Kedzior questions whether the highway will generate economic development. He thinks it will instead create economic relocation -- he says shoppers will eschew small towns in favor of the bigger cities along the road.
Therkildsen says IDOT could offer a recommended alignment by this time next year. He also says that beginning next week, maps and comment forms can be downloaded at www.peoriatomacomb.com.
