Western Gets PAC Planning Money

Macomb, IL – Western has been trying for years to get state money for building a Performing Arts Center on the Macomb campus. Now, the university's efforts have taken a giant step forward. State Senate President Emil Jones and State Senator John Sullivan announced the state will release $4 million in architectural and engineering planning money for the PAC. The money will come from an increase in state revenues. However, there is no money set aside right now for construction of the PAC, which could cost another $57 million. That money will need to come from a new capital budget for the state. Lawmakers and the governor are working to find way of paying for construction projects. Jones and Sullivan hope an agreement can be reached this spring. Planning for the PAC will take one year and construction could take another two years.
