West Prairie HS Burglarized

Sciota, IL – The McDonough County Sheriff's Department is investigating a late night/early morning break-in at West Prairie High School in Sciota.

A window pane on a door near the school's cafeteria was broken, which is how officers believed the suspects entered. A couple of desks and cabinets in an office were ransacked, and the vending machines outside the cafeteria were opened. The machines were significantly damaged, and were removed from the building Monday morning.

Superintendent Jonathan Heerboth does not feel the perpetrators were students given the minimal damage incurred.

"Nobody set off fire extinguishers, or broke computers," says Heerboth. "It appears they were looking for money, or whatever it was they were looking for, I don't know. Good luck finding money."

The district did not cancel classes or delay the start of the school day due to the break-in. The sheriff's department is still investigating.
