Warsaw, IL – Mayor Gary Treatch says Warsaw has about $6,000 left in its general fund account. He says the town spends 5x that amount, each month, in areas such as the police department and city hall.

Treatch says the problem is that the state of Illinois is about $50,000 behind in its income tax payments to Warsaw. He says the town recently received its reimbursement for November.

Treatch says the trouble is the waiting to see when, or if, the next payment is coming.

Several steps have been taken to try to save money.

Treatch says Warsaw is only purchasing supplies as needed. The Warsaw City Council has also eliminated the following jobs
Street Department Superintendent
Building Inspector
Janitor
Deputy Clerk
Police Clerk
Animal Control Officer

The move by the city council put three employees out of work.

Treatch says the town is also borrowing $60,000 to help pay the bills. He says the money will be paid back when the town receives its property tax revenue.
