Walking Trail Proposed With TIF Funds
Mount Sterling, IL – A Mount Sterling group is proposing a walking trail between the town and the YMCA about one-half mile from town. Philip Krups is Vice Chairman of the Tax Increment Financing Advisory Committee. He says if it were built, the sidewalk would allow students in town to walk to the YMCA without having to walk on the highway shoulders. He sais it would also allow employees of businesses near the Y to walk to town safely for errands or lunch. Krups says the committee has recommended the trail to the city council. He says the first step would probably be to commission an engineering feasibility study. He believes trail construction would qualify as infrastructure and would benefit the businesses in town.
