Table Grove, IL – A state grant will help the VIT school district restore a five-acre habitat project.
Prairie, timber and a wetland were planted in 1996. Three years later, an out-of-control brush fire damaged the wooded area. Teacher Barb Mineart the plot was not recovering from the damage. She says she'll use the $3,800 Department of Natural Resources grant to re-plant the native trees that were damaged. Then the area will be useful again for those teachers who want to use the plot adjoining the school grounds in Table Grove. She estimates the project will take about two years to complete.
