Victim, Officer Identified in Fatal Burlington Shooting

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has identified the woman killed in an officer-involved shooting in Burlington, Tuesday morning, as Autumn Steele, 34.

The agency says Steele died following an "apparent gunshot" after police officers responded to a domestic call at about 10:25 A.M. in the 100-block of S. Garfield Ave.

The DCI has also identified the officer involved in the shooting as Jesse Hill.  He has been with the Burlington Police Department since August 2013.

The initial findings are that Hill fired his weapon twice, striking Steele once in the mid-torso.

Hill was taken to the Great River Medical Center for treatment for at least one dog bite, according to a news release from the agency.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 8 at the University of Iowa Decedent Care Unit.

The DCI says no other information will be released until that is completed and until all parties are interviewed.
