Tourism, Business Added to Restoration Project

Lewistown, IL – The Nature Conservancy's Emiquon Restoration project is adding an economic development aspect to its program. The group's Doug Blodgett says a staff member is working with representatives of towns in the region to show how they might capitalize on the development of the 7,000 acre project. The conservancy is restoring former farmland to wetlands, marsh and wildlife habitat in Fulton County. Blodgett says adding recreation to the program at Emiquon is a way of building public support. He says restoraltion is the main goal, but helping businesses develop will make it easier for the conservancy to try similar projects in other locations.
