Teenagers Released To Parents After Gun Charges

Keokuk, IA – The 2 teenagers charged with bringing a gun to Keokuk High School are out of police custody. Dillon Howell, 14 and Derrick Huston, 14, have been released to the care of their parents. The court placed the pair on house arrest unless they are with their parents or grandparents. Howell and Huston cannot have contact with each other and are not permitted on any of the Keokuk School District's campuses without school permission. The 2 are facing a pair of felonies: carrying a weapon on school grounds and unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon. Authorities say Howell brought a 22-caliber pistol to Keokuk High School last month. The weapon was found in Huston's backpack. The pair are expected to be officially expelled from school, next week, for at least 1 year.

Meanwhile, Keokuk High School was not evacuated, this morning, after a bomb threat was made. The building was searched by police officers and school administrators. The police department and the school district, through a joint press release, say it was decided that there was no need to move the students out of the building. An investigation is underway.
