Street Work Begins In Keokuk

Keokuk, IA – Work has begun on Keokuk's residential street repair program. The stretch of High Street, from 13th to 17th streets, is now closed to traffic. Drivers will be able to cross that section of High Street, using the intersections at 18th, 16th, and 13th. Public Works Director, Bill Richards, says the first step in the project is to remove trees that could impact construction. The road will be rebuilt using concrete. Richards says the project is scheduled to be finished November 15. He says work on Brookshire Drive and Pioneer Lane, the other year 1 priority projects, should begin this spring. Richards says the streets sub-committee will have to set the year 2 priorities soon, so engineering work can get started. He says Keokuk's other major project, replacing the sidewalks, curbs, and lighting along three blocks of Main Street will begin on the 18th.
