Still No Official Winner

Burlington, IA – There is still not a winner in the race for a seat on the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors. State law requires a primary candidate receive at least 35% of the vote to move on to the general election. The results are now official, and none of the three men vying for the democratic nomination to the board reached that threshold. Jeff Heland ended up with 34.6%, Board Chairman Ed Blow received 32.6%, and Ben Diewold garnered 32.5%. County Democratic Party Chairwoman, Stacey Wachter, says a special convention will be held June 21. Delegates will nominate candidates and voting will take place until a winner receives more than 50% of the vote. The winner of the Democratic nomination will likely run unopposed in November as no Republicans filed for the seat on the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors.
