'The Steve Harvey Morning Show' Co-host's Playlist

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

We end today's end today's program with the feature we call In Your Ear. That's where we asked some of our guests what they're listening to these days. And because it's Valentine's Day, we'd like to hear from someone who tries to help lonely hearts and troubled lovers work things out.

Shirley Strawberry is the co-host of "The Steve Harvey Morning Show." She's the show's go-to lady for relationship advice. We caught up with her a while ago when she was promoting her book "The Strawberry Letter," and she shared the songs - romantic and otherwise - that are topping her playlist.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FAR AWAY")

SHIRLEY STRAWBERRY: Hi, this is Shirley Strawberry, co-host of nationally syndicated radio show "The Steve Harvey Morning Show."

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FAR AWAY")

MARSHA AMBROSIUS: (Singing) Oh, oh-oh-oh.

STRAWBERRY: And here's what's playing in my ear right now. I am so in love with the Marsha Ambrosius album. It's called "Late Nights and Early Mornings." Her single is "Far Away."

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FAR AWAY")

AMBROSIUS: (Singing) So sad to see you go so soon. So soon. I know that you ain't coming back. In the beginning everything was cool. Toward the end of it all, it's all bad. I know I played my part in making it what it is and I know that you did the same. I guess I'm up out of here, I'm moving on again. I'm sure that you will understand.

STRAWBERRY: I love her phrasing. I love what she talks about.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FAR AWAY")

AMBROSIUS: (Singing) I couldn't have stayed. It's easier to say, 'cause I was by your side when you went through the pain. I guess it doesn't matter...

STRAWBERRY: On one of the songs she says I hope your girlfriend leaves you for a basketball player.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "HOPE SHE CHEATS ON YOU")

AMBROSIUS: (Singing) I hope she cheats on you with a basketball player. Hope that she Kim Kardashianed her way up. Don't know the difference between a touchdown and a lay-up...

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

STRAWBERRY: I just love her attitude. You know, she's got bravado for a woman.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "HOPE SHE CHEATS ON YOU")

AMBROSIUS: (Singing) ...because you are with her. I'm Salt Lake City now I'm up out the picture. Remember how it was when I was with you? Baby, sex so good. Do you remember?

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FOOL FOR YOU")

CEELO GREEN: (Singing) Hey. Hey-hey-hey...

STRAWBERRY: Ceelo and Melanie Fiona, the song "Fool for You."

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FOOL FOR YOU")

GREEN: (Singing) ...that real, that deep, that burning, that amazing, unconditional, inseparable love. That feel like forever, that always emotional but still exceptional love. Can't nobody tell me nothing, it is what it is. And every mistake you...

STRAWBERRY: I love this song because it's about love and how this man really feels about this woman. But more than the words, I have to tell you this beat is so driving, so strong.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FOOL FOR YOU")

GREEN: ...her then. Oh, I love her in and out and up and down and round and round and over and over again. So rare they swear that you; just don't exist.

STRAWBERRY: It puts you just in a frenzy. You want to dance. You want to do something. You want to just grab somebody and hugged him real tight.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FOOL FOR YOU")

GREEN: (Singing) I'm a fool. Such a fool for you. Oh.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG "DON'T EVER LEAVE")

STRAWBERRY: And some of my all-time favorites are, of course, "Urban Hang Suite" by Maxwell. That never ever leaves my car stereo. It just never does.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG "DON'T EVER LEAVE")

MAXWELL: (Singing) It happened along when you were revealed. 'Cause you were dream that you should not have been, a fantasy, real.

STRAWBERRY: I love anything Maxwell does.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG "DON'T EVER LEAVE")

MAXWELL: (Singing) ...this eating, baby this rhythm inside...

STRAWBERRY: His latest album I love, "Bad Habits."

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "BAD HABITS")

MAXWELL: (Singing) Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Make me crazy, don't speak no sound. I want you to prove it to me in the nude. Addicted to you...

STRAWBERRY: Maxwell just does it for me. First of all, because he's so talented, he's so sexy, he's so handsome. When he sings I feel like he's singing directly to me. I don't care who else is in the room, but I just feel him in my spirit, in my soul. I just feel like he's talking to Shirley Strawberry and there's no other women on earth but me, and that no other man but Maxwell.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "BAD HABITS")

MAXWELL: (Singing) Left you and leave you lost. Will you forgive a man? Ask out all over...

MARTIN: That was radio host and author Shirley Strawberry telling us was playing in her ear.
