State Police HQs Won't Close

Springfield, IL – An Illinois State Police spokesman says the five regional headquarters that were slated to close this year because of state budget problems will remain open.

That includes the District 14 headquarters in Macomb.

Captain Scott Compton says State Police are still reviewing how Governor Pat Quinn's recently approved state budget will affect the agency. But he says State Police received more money than anticipated and can keep the offices open.

He says the agency does not anticipate major layoffs as was projected. Instead, the number of troopers will be reduced through attrition.

The threatened closure of the offices was announced in March. The move angered
sheriffs around Illinois, who called it a threat to public safety.

The other district offices that had been scheduled for closure are in Litchfield, Carmi, Pecatonica, and Des Plaines.
