Southeast Iowa Summit Scheduled

Mount Pleasant, IA – State and local leaders will meet in Southeast Iowa, next week, to work on a plan to jump-start the region's economy. On several occasions during the past year, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack has called on Southeast Iowa leaders to hold an economic development summit. Now, the forum, "Southeast Iowa Futures : A Call to Action" has been scheduled for next Friday at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. Southeast Iowa Regional Economic Development Consortium spokesperson, Chuck Betts, says the goal is to put a plan in place to spur economic development throughout the region. Betts says the hope is that economic development, government, business, education, and social leaders from Lee, Henry, Des Moines, and Louisa Counties will attend. Governor Vilsack is also scheduled to travel to Mount Pleasant with state leaders to take part in the summit. Vilsack says Southeast Iowa can not continue to do business as usual, adding that the region must be more aggressive and innovative in its thinking.
