Southeast Iowa Redemption Center Might Move Some Operations

Keokuk, IA – Some of the Southeast Iowa Redemption Center's operations could move to a new location on Keokuk's north side. Owner Brian Boyd wants to move his storage and recycling services to a large piece of land near Keokuk's city limits. Fire recently destroyed the building that was previously used for those activities. Community Development Director, Pam Broomhall, says city law prevents recycling from taking place in districts zoned for commercial or light industrial use. That means Boyd must receive approval from the city council to move forward. Aldermen told Boyd, last night, that they would start the process of possibly changing the code to allow the operations. Any measure would have to go before the Planning Commission and the full city council. For the time being, Boyd says he is renting storage space. His plan calls for the redemption operations to remain in downtown Keokuk.
