Keokuk, IA – Two Southeast Iowa communities have received some federal money to help pay for renovations to a pair of older buildings. Keokuk Main Street Inc. received $25,000 towards the re-development of the old Eagles building on Blondeau Street. Building owner Kevin Kuckelman plans to build several loft-style apartments as well as office space. He says this Main Street Challenge Grant will help get the project off the ground. Kuckelman also owns the building that houses Tri States Public Radio's Southeast Iowa News Bureau. He says there is no formal construction timeline in place and a total project cost has not been figured, as designs are still being finalized.
Bonaparte Main Street in Van Buren County also received $40,000 to develop the 1892 Meeks Pants factory into a reception hall and special events space. 9 Iowa communities received a Main Street Challenge Grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
