Macomb, IL – The panelists explain why they think public employee job evaluations in Illinois should remain open to the public.
Lawmakers passed a measure this year to ensure the evaluations remain open, but Governor Pat Quinn changed the law through an amendatory veto in order to exempt evaluations for law enforcement personnel.
The Illinois Press Association is calling on newspapers to push lawmakers to override the veto. The panelists would also like lawmakers to override the veto. They point out the public is paying the salaries of public law officers and thus should have a right to see the evaluations.
The panelists also stress that personal information such as Social Security numbers would not be released. The idea is simply to make sure personnel evaluations remain open to the public.
