Shop Talk - November 17

Macomb, IL – The panelists talk about the proposed federal shield law, which the US Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider on November 19.

The shield law is designed to help judges decide when reporters can protect the identity of a confidential source and when journalists might be compelled to testify in federal court.

The measure is a compromise worked out by media and journalism groups, members of the Senate, and the Obama administration. It took five years to craft the bill.
