Shop Talk - January 18

Macomb, IL – The panelists discuss the findings of a review into the termination of Juan Williams' contract by NPR.

NPR's Board of Directors worked with the outside legal counsel Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP to gather information.

They found Williams' contract was terminated in accordance with its terms. However, the board agreed to adopt recommendations and remedial measures designed to address issues that came up during the review.

Many current and former NPR employees and contractors were interviewed by the legal counsel, but the firm was unsuccessful in efforts to get Williams to participate.

The Shop Talk panelists are highly critical of Williams refusal to participate. His input could have been used to make sure no one in the future endures a similar ordeal.

The panelists are also critical of the apparently forced resignation of Ellen Weiss, Senior Vice President for News at NPR. It appears she has been made the scapegoat for the Williams firing.

NPR is skewered in a New York Times article for forcing Weiss' departure.
