Shop Talk - February 9

Macomb, IL – Tri States Public Radio's Morning Edition host Alex Degman joins the panelists to talk about the quality of reporting he witnessed while covering the February 3 shooting at the Farm King store in Macomb.

Degman says most reporters did a pretty good job. But he also says too many reporters seemed more interested in getting the story first rather than getting it right. Degman says reporters were turning to bystanders for information, even if those bystanders arrived on the scene after the incident began.

Degman says he also had to squelch rumors on social media outlets. He says some people who were not in Macomb tried to contradict what he was learning from authorities who were at the scene.
