Some people in the news industry believe reporters should cover stories the public wants to hear about. In addition, it's often easier to report on celebrity news and other stories that provide interesting visuals.

Others contend there should be less reporting on celebrities and more of a focus on news that matters. However, it's up to reporters to write compelling stories in order to keep audiences interested in issues such as local and state government budgets - issues that matter but which are often reported in an uninteresting style.
