Shop Talk - April 6

Macomb, IL – The panelists talk about Mike James' proposal to improve local broadcast news. James is editor of NewsBlues.com.

Some of his suggestions are serious, such as requiring the owners of every TV and radio station to reapply for broadcast licenses. He says new licenses should be issued only to individuals or local ownership groups.

Some of James' suggestions are little more tongue-in-cheek. For example, he would order the immediate arrest and detention of all news anchors who thank reporters for their reports. He also thinks news promos that require on-air personalities to sing or dance should be met with heavy fines.
