Shop Talk

October 2, 2007 – The panelists discuss a recent meeting where reporters were asked to leave but members of the public were allowed to stay. The Peoria Journal Star reported the meeting was organized to foster communication and cooperation between mayors, village presidents, and other public office holders in Fulton County.

Since those holding the meeting each represented a separate public body, the meeting did not fall under the guidelines of the Illinois Open Meetings Act. But the Illinois Attorney General's office says if the public is permitted, then the media should be permitted, and vice versa.
