Fort Madison, IA – A Fort Madison landmark will be on the auction block this week. The auction website, www.biditup.com, says the sale of the Sheaffer Pen plant will get underway at 10 AM Thursday morning. Bidding can take place online or at the plant in downtown Fort Madison. All heavy machinery, including molding machines, dryers, and pen assembly equipment, will be sold first. The California-based website says the 8-acre property will go up for bid at 1 PM Thursday. A special sale preview will be held for about 7 hours on Wednesday. Roughly 40 employees still work at Sheaffer Pen for Bic USA. Bic sold the plant to Fort Madison Properties, LLC, in November for $550,000.
