Search Progressing for New Illinois State Superintendent

Quincy, IL – The Illinois State Board of Education hopes to have a new state superintendent in place early next year. The list of qualities that potential candidates should possess, though, is still growing. The search firm hired to find a successor to outgoing State Superintendent, Randy Dunn, is still gathering public input. About 20 administrators and school board members, from West Central Illinois, contributed to the list of desired characteristics during a forum in Quincy. Mendon Superintendent, Diane Robertson, says the next state superintendent should have recent experience, as a teacher or as an administrator, in an Illinois school district. Other audience members want someone with intelligence, scholarship, and credibility. Macomb Superintendent Fran Karanovich, who moderated the forum, says the pool of candidates will be narrowed in January and cut down to the top 3 by February. She says the state board should make its final choice in March, after consulting with whomever is elected governor.
