School Superintendent Resigns

Colchester, IL – The first and only superintendent in the brief history of the West Prairie School District has quit. A news release from the district says Dr. Terry Scandrett submitted his resignation effective immediately. The release says Scandrett chose to step down because of "philosophical differences" with the school board. No one from the district's office was available to offer further comment on Friday. Scandrett will remain with the district through the end of June. He will serve in an administrative role and assist James Taylor, who the board chose to serve as interim superintendent. Taylor will begin work on Monday. Taylor was superintendent of the Colchester district during the 1990s. Colchester merged with the Northwest district to form West Prairie in July 2003. Scandrett came to the district from Festus, MO, where he spent seven years as the school superintendent.
