Macomb, IL – A hearing on detaching about a dozen students and some farmland from the Rushville-Industry schools to the Macomb district will be continued. The hearing is being held by the Hancock-McDonough Regional School Board. A Schuyler County judge ruled against transferring the issue to the Fulton-Schuyler County regional school trustees. During the first part of the hearing, seven witnesses testified that they believed the children would have more opportunities if they attended in Macomb. The Schuyler-Industry school board does not want the loss of assessed valuation on property that the detachment would involve. When the hearing continues, the opponents are expected to call four witnesses to testify why the detachment should not be permitted.
