Schock on Federal Disaster Application

May 13, 2013

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn applied to have 11 counties declared federal disaster areas because of recent flooding.

A Western Illinois Republican Congressman said he “has no complaints” on the governor’s handling of the situation.

Representative Aaron Schock said there are many flood damaged counties in his district. He said he spoke with Quinn’s office immediately after the application, and offered letters of support.

"I've got no issue with how he's handled it, in fact I think he's done a pretty good job and as far as the request he's made with the feds we're supporting it," Schock said.

Schock said the Governor helped greatly during the flood as well, including releasing 300 prisoners to help sandbag near Meredosia.

Fulton County was one of the 11 counties in the application.

Schock said the federal disaster application is the first step in the recovery process and more counties may be added in the future.
