Rules Reviewed for Macomb Archery Deer Hunting

The city of Macomb is ready for bow hunting season to begin November 1 at Spring Lake Park.

Aldermen this week discussed the rules for hunting deer at the city-owned park.

Permits may be obtained at the City Clerk’s office beginning October 1 at 9:00 a.m. on a first come, first served basis.  A reserve list will be established for those who apply but don’t receive a permit.

Hunters have three areas from which to choose.

  • Area 1:  includes 52 acres, at the south side of the lake, only six permits allowed
  • Area 2:  includes 103 acres at the mouth of the lake to the drainage, only 10 permits allowed
  • Area 3:  includes 86 acres, at the north side of the lake, no public access, only 10 permits allowed

Hunting is prohibited at the neighboring Lakeview Nature Park and trail areas.

Permits must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office no later than the end of February, Hunters must also turn in details about any activity and harvest information for the year.

Mayor Mike Inman knows there have been concerns regarding safety, and certain landowners near Spring Lake Park are concerned hunters might go outside of the designated areas, but he feels those issues have been addressed.

“We believe that there are mechanisms in place for them to report any violations and people to be discouraged from doing that during this process,” Inman said.

Those who fail to comply with the regulations will lose their future hunting privileges.

The city said applications are not limited to Macomb residents.
