Road Projects Delayed In Lee County

Keokuk, IA – Several major road construction projects are on hold in Lee County. County Engineer Dennis Osipowicz says the state's "Farm To Market" fund is in the red by $50,000,000. Counties use those dollars to upgrade or repair roads that connect rural and urban areas. Osipowicz says the state has halted all projects that use the fund until it has a surplus. He says that will impact projects such as Airport Road. Osipowicz says the state's deficit came about because of construction costs jumping and an increased number of projects. He says Lee County's deficit is more than $2,000,000. Osipowicz says it could be 2 years before Lee County's "Farm To Market" fund is in the black and projects can resume.
