Road Backers to Discuss Options

Bushnell, IL – Bushnell citizens and backers of one of the alternate routes for Route 336 are expected to meet next week to discuss their options. The road between Peoria and Macomb could come as close as 1.5 miles to Bushnell, or it might pass several miles to the south. Aldermen have voted to support the nearer approach. Steve Hess of Citizens for a Responsible Alignment says that more northerly route would cost an extra $40 million. Part of that would be land cost, but Hess says much of the extra cost would go for constructing bridges over a dozen or more streams. Hess says his group is also trying to arrange a meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich. He says IDoT can recommend a route, but the final decision will be a political one.
