Rezoning Decision Tabled

Macomb, IL – The Macomb City Council has tabled a motion to rezone a pair of lots in the 300 block of North McArthur Street. Aldermen indicated they would like more information before making a decision. They're still hoping to resolve the matter before the new city council is sworn in at the beginning of May. Property owner Diana Protsman wants the land rezoned from light manufacturing to multi-family residential, which would allow rental units to be built there. Neighborhood residents have voiced opposition to the plan. They say there are already too many rental units in that part of town. While aldermen say they want more information about the proposal, city attorney Liz Wilhelm pointed out their decision should be based on the appropriate zoning for that site and not on the possible development plans for it.
