The Return of the Silver Screen

Macomb, IL – The number of first-run movie choices in Macomb just tripled over what was offered a couple months ago.

The Rialto Cinema opened its doors on June 18, a few weeks after Carmike Cinemas closed its doors. Carmike offered just two screens. The Rialto has six. Each movie will show four times daily.

A big crowd turned out for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Rialto. Those invited to the festivities also got to see a free movie.

Theater Manager Larry Jarvis says it's hard to believe the building was an abandoned grocery store just a few months ago. "It's pretty awesome. They did miracles with this place," says Jarvis.

"They" are owners Larry and Melody McGrath of the Earlann Family of Movie Theaters. The McGraths were on hand for the grand opening.

Jarvis says just about everything in The Rialto is new. He's hearing a lot of good comments about the chairs. "I've had a few people comment that they wish they could take some home because they're better than whatever you can get at home," says Jarvis.

The Rialto is located at 1405 East Jackson Street, next to Sears. It had been part of the Eagle Food Store, though the grocery store closed a number of years ago.

Prices at The Rialto are $7.00 for adults, $6.25 for seniors, and $5.75 for children. Matinees (shows before 6:00 p.m.) are also $5.75.

The McGraths say they will continue the tradition of the International Film Series.
