McDonough County restaurant inspection scores are once again available online -- though they're not on the McDonough County Health Department's website.

The health department this week started using the file sharing site Dropbox.

“So if somebody has a place they like to eat at and they just want to keep tabs on them they can have that link stored somewhere and just click on that and it will always bring them to the most recent form that’s updated,” said Stefanie Johnson of the health department.

Johnson said the scores will be updated monthly. She said the agency will continue using Dropbox until the health department's website is upgraded.

The information shared from inspections includes a restaurant's overall score along with the number of critical and non-critical violations and the date of inspection.

The link to the Dropbox site was posted to the McDonough County Health Department’s Facebook page.

Johnson said the health department stopped using its website to share restaurant inspection scores more than a year ago when the agency lost the staff member who was able to update the site.

“We had some discussions internally about the best way to make the information easy to access for the public without decreasing productivity here,” Johnson said of the decision to try Dropbox.
